What is Eyelid Surgery?

Dr. Pruitt practices a conservative, nuanced approach when it comes to rejuvenating the appearance of the eyes, shaping and smoothing the lids without forcing extreme changes or compromising eyelid function. The surgery can beautifully restore a well-rested countenance and boost self-confidence. In certain cases, it may even improve vision issues associated with low-hanging lids.

Many patients pursuing a facelift or neck lift with Dr. Pruitt decide to undergo eyelid lift procedures as part of a comprehensive anti-aging treatment plan that addresses all areas of the face and neck at the same time.

Your Detailed Consultation Process

Goals and Objectives

During the consultation process, the client will express their unique goals and objectives for improvement. After understanding their requests and concerns, Dr. Pruitt will determine if the client is a good candidate for an eyelid lift. Dr. Pruitt will only accept a new client if he believes that the surgery is in their best interest and that it will accomplish an improved aesthetic result.

Questions and Medical History

The client will have the chance to review photos of previous successful procedures performed by Dr. Pruitt (with the patient’s permission) and will be able to ask as many questions as they like. He will perform a thorough review of the patient’s medical history, a physical evaluation and look specifically at factors such as skin quality and elasticity as well as the degree of ptosis and U.V. sun damage. Lifestyle and assessment of risk factors will also be considered  when determining candidacy.

Pre-operative Consultation

If the patient decides to move forward and is accepted by Dr. Pruitt as a candidate for eyelid surgery, the surgery date can be reserved and a second pre-operative consult can be scheduled at this time. During the pre-operative consult, additional questions can be answered and the final touches on the client’s personalized surgical plan can be refined. Additionally, medical photos are taken for use during surgery, paperwork is signed, and any last-minute details are carefully reviewed.

Understanding the Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Approach

A board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Pruitt provides some of the best eyelid enhancement surgery in Dallas and surrounding areas. Dr. Pruitt takes a conservative approach to eyelid lift procedures and will work to shape and smooth the lids to give the appearance of a very natural cosmetic enhancement.

Sedation and Anesthetic

The surgery is usually performed with only IV sedation and local anesthetic. A credentialed anesthesia professional provides the sedation and monitors the patient at all times during the procedure. Since general anesthesia is avoided, there is no tube inserted into the trachea, and the patient is relaxed and unaware while breathing on their own. Patients wake up quickly, typically within minutes, and remain very comfortable throughout their recovery.

Procedure

During the surgery, Dr. Pruitt will carefully lift and reposition the tissues in the treatment area, removing excess skin and fatty tissue as needed to sculpt the best eyelid contours for your unique anatomy.

Your Recovery Period

After surgery, Dr. Pruitt will want you to follow specific instructions to minimize swelling or puffiness and speed recovery. His nurse educator will discuss these with you at your pre-operative consultation and they will be provided to you in writing as well.
